Things to consider

Is this the right fit?

  • Altitude

Point Lenana is nearly 5,000 m; acclimatisation matters.

  • Gear

Warm, waterproof clothing and a mountain sleeping bag are essential.

  • Routes

Naro Moru is the most direct route, Sirimon is drier and Chogoria is known for its lakes and gorges. A Sirimon–Chogoria traverse shows both sides.

  • Seasons

January to February and June to October are usually the driest trekking months.

  • What is included

Transport to the mountain, park, hut or camping fees, a mountain guide, porters, a cook and meals on the mountain.

Useful answers

Questions travellers ask.

Which is easier, Mount Kenya or Kilimanjaro?

Point Lenana is lower than Uhuru Peak, but both are serious treks at altitude. Read our comparison guide.

How many days do I need for Mount Kenya?

Four days suits fit trekkers; five days adds an acclimatisation day that makes summit morning more comfortable.

How much does a Mount Kenya trek cost?

Our published prices range from USD 560 to USD 750 per person, depending on the route and length. Your quote confirms the price for your dates.

Do I need climbing experience?

No. Point Lenana (4,985 m) is a trekking summit; the higher peaks, Batian and Nelion, are technical climbs we do not offer.
